A Nation Rich in Religion, Yet in Need of the Gospel
Italy is a nation with a rich religious heritage, historically shaped by the influence of the Roman Catholic Church. Home to Vatican City and the global center of Catholicism, faith has long been woven into Italy’s culture, traditions, and identity. Many Italians are baptized and identify as Catholic, and religious symbols and practices remain visible throughout daily life.
However, much of this faith is cultural rather than personal. While church history is deeply rooted in the culture, regular Bible engagement and active participation in a personal relationship with Jesus are far less common. In recent decades, Italy has seen a steady rise in secularism, with many people identifying as atheist, agnostic, or simply indifferent to spiritual matters.

This cultural landscape produces challenges for spreading the true Gospel of Jesus:
Ministry Challenges
False Teachings:
Most Italians have been indoctrinated by the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Things such as Marian dogmas, purgatory, and transubstantiation bring challenges when introducing the True Gospel.
Distrust:
Many Italian families have been wronged by the Catholic Church, and they know the Catholic Church has covered up a lot of moral failures. This has created a distrust to all umbrellas of Christianity.
Cultural Identity:
To be Italian is to be Catholic. Because of this, conversion to Christianity causes cultural and family conflict. This causes a lot of hesitation to fully commit to following Jesus and leaving the Catholic identity behind.
